PSG vs Atletico Madrid match
analysis played on June 15th 2025
Match setup
This match was played in Rose Bowl in Pasadena where PSG
side had their first match in the expanded 32- team club world cup. Dembele for
PSG was missing due to injury and they were facing Simeone side. PSG had just
come from champions league triumph and they had a lot to show on this match.
Atletico Madrid played with the formation 4-4-2 which
heavily defensive. Despite PSG missing key player like Dembele, they were
formidable in this match and this was very crucial match for them.
First-Half Domination by PSG
From the start of the match PSG dominated almost 80 % of the
match and Fabian Ruiz started the scoresheet at 19-minute goal from his left
foot. With this goal and the possession on their hand it was very clear that PSG
were going to add another goal before half time. This dream or vision was not
long before it came to pass when vitinha score after a precise counter attack
making it 2-0 at half time. This made him the man of the match after such
exemplary performance.
Atletico’s Momentary Push and VAR Drama
17’ minutes into the second-half ,Alvarez found the net but
VAR led to cancellation of the game as there was a foul in the buildup. This
kind of decisions and moments discouraged Atletico’s players as they hoped to
get into the game and keep their hopes of equalizing. Their frustration
increased their struggles and their morale went down in the game with few
passes here and there before being disposed.
Atletico Madrid were reduced to 10 men at 78th
minute when Cl’ement received the second yellow card after receiving the first
one in first half. This added to their bad luck as their defense weaknesses
were exposed during this time. It was less than a quarter to the finale whistle
and it seemed they couldn’t catch up with PSG side with the few minutes
remaining.
Late Goals & Clinical Finishing
After the red card ,Atletico were undermanned and this meant
that PSG had an extra player on the pitch it was just a big advantage for them
to seal the victory.
Senny Manyulu a player who came in as substitute for PSG
scored a rebound at 87th minute making it 3-0. At this point PSG
were now relaxed and more composed and enjoyed their possession almost clocking
90% at the time as they were confident of their victory though they still
wanted a clean sheet. Robin le Normand handled the ball in the box at 90+7’ and
this hand PSG a straight penalty. Lee Kang-in converted the penalty
successfully making it 4-0 at stoppage time.
Conclusion
PSG’S dominant performance has set tempo in the tournament
and they wait to play their next opponent which is Botafogo.
I know they are confident enough to continue with the good performance.
Atletico will now have to face Seattle and Botafogo as well
and on this every point count for them. They have to step up and get back in
the game.
